And big dogs, too!! Any dog which likes to jump and retrieve a ball can learn to play the exciting canine sport of Flyball.
The Can-Do Agility Team offers lessons for people interested in teaching their dogs the sport of Flyball, and who would like to join the Can-Do Agility Team's family of racing dogs. Flyball is a speed event. Dogs should be over six months of age. They should be in good health and physical condition. They should also have some basic obedience.
Class size is kept small to allow us to spend more time with each dog. It can take up to a year to train a dog to be able to compete in flyball races.
During the course of lessons we will teach each dog the basics of jumping the four flyball hurdles, retrieving a ball and bringing it back to their handler. Emphasis is placed on teaching the dog to be accurate and fast. As they progress through the lessons we introduce the flyball box to the dogs, and reinforce their ability to leap the four hurdles and retrieve the ball. The final steps will fine-tune the dog's ability, and teach the handler the finer points of racing with a flyball team. Once a dog and handler reach this level, they may be eligible to join the Can-Do Agility Team, where they will continue the training with the team dogs and handlers, and get ready for their first tournament!
